--donation bonus (day #29, post 5/5)--
While Conall couldn’t completely stop Harper’s soul-enhanced beams of light, he could still provide rather solid protection from them--protection which he extended to the other Abolishers. And that was the real problem.

Darsihm passed the obvious instructions on to Mehlsanz and Garovel. ‘Take that one out,’ he said, motioning to Conall, ‘and Harper will be able to annihilate the others.’

Harper pooled his concentration and threw his hand into the air. From it, an immense beacon of light poured out, illuminating the ruined forest in front of him and casting giant, moving white lasers across the dirt, gouging out trenches as they all convened toward the aluminum shelter around Andres and Desmond. The beams left smoldering trails in the aluminum but still bounced off into the forest, cutting through trees and igniting them. Not the most desirable outcome, but Harper just needed to keep Andres and Desmond pinned down for a few moments.

Hector coated the Queen’s arms in metal as she closed in on Conall. Conall raised an aluminum wall for himself, and even with its soul-enhancements, the full might of the Queen’s punches left enormous dents in the shimmering metal. And all the while, an iron meteor formed high above Conall and begun its descent.

And as the meteor neared the ground, the Queen retreated out of its way. However, it stopped in mid-air before ever reaching Conall.

And that’s when Karkash reappeared, tearing the iron meteor into electrified chunks, swirling them around the battlefield while Hector rushed to annihilate them all again.

The tide of battle shifted.

Hector was suddenly very busy diverting lightning strikes with iron spires, which allowed Conall to help Desmond and Andres draw closer to Harper. Nola was back up as well, and soon, so would Tessa be, and her power was still unknown.

Harper had to keep them all at bay while the others worked on eliminating at least one before the enemy regrouped fully. He tried to shoot Karkash out of the sky again, but the Vaelish man saw it coming this time and surged through the air at the last moment, avoiding the beam completely.

  2. "Hector coated the Queens arms in metal"
    Should be "Queen's" I think.

  3. God! Karkash is a right pain in the ass!

  4. How exactly weren't powerful superhumans noticed even once in the history of this world again? One would think those beams of light drew attention on the battlefield :p

  5. Never was stated that they weren't noticed.

  6. It seemed o be implied because no one seemed to know about for example Karkash, but that might have been my imagination. I do wonder what the general knowledge is though.

  7. uhhh harper is essentially using super-lasers at this point. lasers from light. light that travels at millions of km/s. a hell of a lot faster then karkash can see/react/dodge. i find it extremely hard to believe that anybody could come remotely close to dodging a beam of light, and even if they somehow did(which they wouldnt), they wouldnt be able to dodge the next. if you think about it, this could quite easily be an extremely overpowered power. simply because realistically, there is no way to avoid it.

  8. also, there are many laser cutters used today that easily pierce and cut ''shiny'' materiels such as aluminum. and seeing how much stronger harper is then everybody else, he shouldnt really have a problem absolutely decimating everybody including that aluminum guy. i see what youre trying to do with attempting to balance out the fight, and you cant really change it but just thought you should know for future reference

  9. It's not the beam of light that he's avoiding, but rather the attempt at shooting it. You may recall that Hector did the same thing with Karkash's lightning previously. Garovel instructed him to watch Karkash' s hands, as the lightning is also much too fast to dodge. It was specifically mentioned in the text.

  10. Karkash can't evade the beam once it's fired, but he can keep ahead of Harper's targeting, the same way ground vehicles can "dodge" supersonic cannon shells.

Also, laser cutters can cut aluminum, but not terribly efficiently (physical blades or plasma cutters are usually used instead). They are also not usually cutting several-inch-thick moving targets, never mind ones that are soul-strengthened, reinforced on the fly and possibly have boosted reflectivity.

  11. In addition to what Eric said, keep in mind that the ability to manipulate light isn't necessarily that impressive at first. Imagine how long it might have taken him to make light that could cause even the slightest physical harm. Harper has had to develop his power the same as everyone else. Just because he's more powerful than the people he's fighting in this scene doesn't mean he's completely mastered everything about his ability.

  12. hmmm interesting... i just realized something else though. if his laser can cut through flesh then that means that it is super strong. which would also mean that it is super bright (since it is emitting enough energy to tear through almost any normal solid materiel). i mean enough to instantly blind anyone that is looking anywhere near it. unless he can somehow control the ''brightness''. not sure if possible though since i think that the stronger it is the more energy it would have. and energy directly correlates with brightness (take stars for example). still not sure on the absolute physics of light. i know im right on the brightness thing but i dont know if there would be somehow be some way to control the brightness without affecting energy output. hmmm not sire thats possible but i may be wrong. assuming that the physics in tthis world is exactly the same

  13. That is an interesting point, especially since the whole reason aluminum shields work is that most of the energy is being reflected back out, and even sunlight on cars can be dazzling. I dunno, maybe chalk it up to everyone either having regeneration running or not having physical eyes to burn.

  14. It could just be that engagements such as this hadn't ever happened in Atreya. So for everyone in the country, this shit is crazy!

  15. "Nola was back up as well, and soon, so would Tessa {be},and her power was still unknown."

Remove? Sounds, and reads, uncomfortably, imo.
