Page 1045

Without waiting to see where they were coming from, Hector launched himself away on an iron pillar.

Explosions chased him, and even though they did little more than tear his clothes, they were becoming a problem due to all the smoke they left behind. If he allowed his vision to become obscured, he really would be fighting blind, because he couldn’t rely on Garovel to locate his opponents’ souls.

The solution was a platform, he decided. A platform for everything--all around the houses, filling the backyard and rising past the rooftops and nearer the trees above. He aimed to raise himself up along with everyone he couldn’t see. He even covered the roofs with iron and raised those sections as well, making sure to attach them to the greater platform horizontally so that they didn’t put pressure on any of the houses and cause any cave-ins.

It was tricky work, because he had to do it whilst avoiding the scarcely visible distortions in the air from the multiple destruction users who were ganging up on him, but Hector kept his bearings, and soon enough, the fruits of his labor revealed themselves. A broad plateau of solid iron stretched out before him, pressing among the trees and indeed, crushing most of the branches in its way. He’d been far more concerned with maintaining precise construction around the civilian homes to bother himself with protecting all the damn trees, too.

Most importantly, however, he could hear the constant drum of footsteps rushing across the iron. He couldn’t see any of the bastards, but they were definitely there, and they were already tearing into his work with theirs--explosions, acid, destruction, all cutting into what he’d done.

So he converted the plateau into a bed of spikes, save only where he was running. A half-dozen streams of blood revealed immediate results, and Hector prepared his next move.

If he allowed his vision to become obscured like[?], he really would be fighting blind, because he couldn’t [fall back?] on Garovel to locate his opponent’s souls.

  2. "Without waiting to see where they were coming [form]"

  3. Or maybe 'rely' instead of 'fall back'.

    ReplyDelete
  4. The first one is a mistake but the term "fall back" is correct.

Did he got separated from Garovel? I don't really remember him leaving Garovel, though, or Fall back had another meaning besides backing off?

  6. Hector is all like "you all came to the wrong neighbourhood to cause trouble". Also, shouldn't the sounds of battle reach the sandcastle already?

Besides that, am I the only one who tried the recommended reading method of "come back a week later and read it in chuncks" and failed completely?

  7. Got it, thanks.

And yeah, like Blaed said, "fall back" is correct, but I feel "rely" slightly more intuitive.

  8. No, they weren't separated. It's just referring to the fact that Garovel isn't able to sense these enemies.

I see, thanks for clarifying it.

  10. So Frost, are you ever going to release TZK as a proper book? Is that a goal you have? Because I would happily place this on my bookshelf :)

  11. Unlike Harper, in cheat-mode Hector can just laugh off his
enemies' attacks, which means he can go entirely on the offensive. He also doesn't seem to be facing anyone who can cancel his attacks like Conall did to Harper.

  12. ...that's why I said "cheat shield" and "utter lie"...

  13. Today's lesson continues to be: never believe the dossier on a target to be 100% accurate. ;P

  14. I am waiting on a 6" thick sheet the same shape as the platform falling down on it.
Still need to work on the trees etc after this though.

    ReplyDelete
  15. He still can't hold the shield for long...

    ReplyDelete
  16. I thought their blood remained invisible. Remeber when the servant's head was still invisible after Hector cut it off?

    ReplyDelete
  17. It was tricky work, because he had to do it whilst on avoiding the scarcely visible distortions
[whilst on avoiding] doesn't sound right to me. Is it supposed to be [while avoiding]?

Have read any light novels I feel like I should recommend something to give more ideas as a reader?
    Grimgal?
    idk
    idk

  19. Think he meant "fall back on" as in "rely on" , and also it said that Garovel mysteriously can't see them, souls included. That's also why they were so confused earlier.

  20. Finally caught up. I'm somewhat proud of myself for reading two years of content in the span of two weeks, but at the same time sad that I can't read massive chunks of the story at a time anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Four days without a new chapter... Is everything alright, Frost?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yeah, I tried waiting a couple months so that the pages could build up but I just read anything and it hardly took five minutes. Unfortunately Frost isn't a full time writer (I think) so he can't pump out material quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  23. He's probably sitting there looking at our comments and say "i will make you wait" then laugh evilly

    ReplyDelete
  24. HAH! I actually would not be surprised by that!

    ReplyDelete
  25. i wish there will be a moment where Hector activated an Ancient artifact or something that only activated by iron materialization user only and then transported to the past where he and garovel meet the very first servant and reaper which is actually an materialization user too if that happens it would be very interesting but maybe a bit cliche, but it's hector we're talking everything around him hi interesting, but Mr.Frost It's your story

    ReplyDelete
  26. That's a hell of a sentence.

    ReplyDelete
  27. it's an idea and an idea don't have any limitations

    ReplyDelete
  28. Damn, Hector has come a long long way. I really would love to see a chart of the "average" grow of a servant - and where Hector is at the moment. Is that possible?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well, if you'll remember, Garovel said Hector was about as strong as a regular servant of 7 years. This is not counting Soul Synch, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Your updates have become very sporadic is there still set update times?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm hoping Frost isn't sck or Life decided to Shoryuken him.. That's usually the case when he hasn't updated in a while.

  32. I just voted for TZK on Top Web Fiction. I hadn't done so for months, and apparently I wasn't the only one. 11th place?! Good Lord, I've never seen TZK that low. Guys, please don't make the same mistake I did. Remember to vote. Keep this series alive. Every little bit counts. I'll try to do my part.

    ReplyDelete
  33. At this point I think there's more words in the comment section than the page proper, aren't we a talkative bunch lol

  34. A thought came to mind the other day. Elroy materializes hydrogen and oxygen in the form of water. Would he be capable of materializing other things like hydrogen peroxide or something like that? Also, does he materialize them separately and combine them into water or does he just materialize it as water?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Your question had already come up in the comments. For now at least, it's just water and he can't materialize them separately. No telling what may happen in the future, though.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Mm. I've actually considered doing something along those lines before, but I just don't really like time travel stories. So. I'm sorry if this takes away some of the mystery for you 'r whatever, but there's not gonna be an time travel in TZK. Unless you count going forward at regular speed.

Time skips, however--there's definitely a chance of those happening at some point. Unless the planet blows up first.

    ReplyDelete
  37. No, the escaping blood becomes visible. You might recall Hector seeing "geysers of blood" on Page 1043.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Time skip is actually a good idea.

  39. One typo and some nitpicking:

(Tilaze has found the typo already, but it seems you didn't notice their comment.)
"he had to do it whilst [on] avoiding the scarcely visible distortions in the air"

So the "on" is probably a typo, but I have to say that the "whilst" is bothering me as well. I guess "whilst" is not an entirely British thing, but you can't really rock that when you use "among" in the very next sentence. It's either while and among, or whilst and amongst.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ah, both fixed. The second was supposed to be a simple "into his work with theirs."

Mm, as for this while/whilst business. Meh. I like using both. And this story isn't restricted by a single country's publication standards, SO FUCK IT. I'M NOT CHANGING IT. YOU CAN'T MAKE ME.

Thank you for the catches as always, by the way.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Sorry I missed this. Thanks for the catch, even though I'm a turd.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Heh, that's funny. For me, the while/whilst thing is about the only instance where I prefer the "American" version. I like the British version for the momentum and direction based adverbs -- backwards, forwards, towards. Kind of makes more sense to me.

  43. "He even covered the roofs with iron and raised those section[s] as well."
