How You Can Help

Basically...
If you like the story and are wondering how you can help the poor, sad, struggling, frowny-faced author (HI THERE), then it's pretty simple. Just tell your friends about the site.

That's really all I need. Traffic. As you've probably noticed by now, I use Project Wonderful (which I quite adore, by the way) for ad services. The more traffic I get, the more valuable the ads become. Simple. DIFFICULT AS HELL. But simple.

You can also donate, if you prefer. That's super helpful.

But...
If you don't want to tell your friends, because they're all jerks with horrible taste, or because you're like me and don't have any friends (HI AGAIN), then there are still some other ways you can help me out.

You can leave a rating/review at Web Fiction Guide here. Voting for it at Top Web Fiction here on a weekly basis would also be very helpful.

Cross-linking tropes to The Zombie Knight's TVTropes page. That site is a great place to give potential readers an idea of what the story is really like.

And uh... Iunno. Maybe there are other ways I haven't thought of. You could write saucy fanfiction where Hector and Garovel discover a love that can never be. You could go to your local grocery store and bother people with terrible flyers you drew by hand. You could sell your body to people in exchange for pageviews. You could kidnap and--uhh, I mean... Not that I'm... recommending those things... I was just... saying stuff...

Other suggestions in the comments are welcome. EVEN REALLY STUPID ONES. GO ON. I'LL ONLY TEASE YOU A LITTLE BIT.

  1. Error in the next to last paragraph. Is it supposed to be I dunno, or I 'unno?

    1. I also made the comment on servant power use based on current explained details and the possible spoiler about colt.

    2. Ah, no, that's not an error. I mean, it's not "correct," necessarily, but I wrote it that way on purpose. 'sjust slang. Thanks for the check, though.

And I saw those comments. I'll reply to them next.

    4. I appreciate the offer, but I don't really have a huge need (or the funds) for illustrations at the moment.

If you're talking about fanart, though, then that's different. I'd be happy to start a gallery and link to all of the artists' deviantart profiles or whatever website they use.

    6. It's okay, anon. I lost my wife because I wrote it. Just kidding, haha, we never married. She was my neighbor and didn't know who I was yet, but she definitely would have, if she hadn't moved away after only eight years of living next to me. Also, it probably had nothing to do with my writing, but nevermind that. We're kindred spirits, you and I.

    3. Doggie chocolate is a shame. It's not even shaped like a dog.

  3. It seems that Worm got a lot of readers from the SpaceBattles Creative Writing forums. Perhaps you should do some self-promotion there?

(I would help you, but I'm cripplingly unsociable. Sorry!)

    1. Hmm. Interesting. Those forums seem to load extremely slowly for me, but I'll definitely look into it. Thank you for the heads up. I'd never heard of that place before.

  4. I love your story, its an amazing piece. I think you could actually turn this into a book, also if you want more people to read you could consider posting it on deviantart.com. I even have a fanfiction going on there and a ton of people post their stories on there.

    1. Thank you. :)

That's an option, I suppose, but I'm not too keen to post the story elsewhere. I like having my own space and the control it affords. I don't know much about deviantart, though, or its policies regarding the placement of ads 'n such.

  5. Hello, first of all, i need to apologize for my english. I'm from Argentina, and i became aware of your story through SMBC comics. It's a shame that you don´t have any diffusion, and only a few people can reach this stuff. Anyway, you post the ways of helping right up, but, nevertheless, a place like internet is so much wider than a blog. Ehm, not sure why i'm doing this, but, great material, though. Ah, and a question. Why not a comic? It's kind of visual.

    1. Hello and welcome. Glad you're enjoying.

Why not a comic? The short answer is that I simply can't draw well enough. And even if I could, a comic would be A LOT more work, so the story wouldn't progress as quickly as it does now. And also, that would be a slightly different type of writing, too. I'd have to imagine the story a bit differently, because dialogue wouldn't be quite as important due the story needing to be more "visual."

    2. K, thanks for answering! It makes sense. I'll just keep reading.

  6. Hey George, is everything ok? You never posted the fifth page for the bonus stuff yesterday and the day before you never posted anything.

    1. Yeah, everything's fine. It's just that my posting speed has essentially doubled, these past couple months, so I'm still trying to get acclimated to the increase. I'll get it buffed out in February and probably increase the donation bonus threshold to $10 per day. 'CUZ THIS SHIT IS PRETTY INTENSE. I mean, I certainly don't mind the extra work, but it IS extra work.

    2. This just shows you how much everyone loves you novel and want to see more of it.

    3. Yeah, just remember that a longer web novel will cause people to stay on this site more, and get more notice and attention. This will lead to more advertising, which I think is good for you.

  7. Really enjoying your work. I have recommended it to friends but forgot they had social lives so they won't probably read it but hey and publicity is better than none. Also do you base your countries off real life ones? Also where does Hector get the extra mass to create iron out ofthinair

    ReplyDelete

    1. Thanks for reading.

I don't really base them on any real life countries in particular. You could say I mix and match a little, but I mostly just consider them to be their own things.

And Hector's materialization ability is described "creating something from nothing." So he gets it from nowhere, essentially. He's not converting air into metal. He's actually creating (and subsequently annihilating) matter.

  8. turn it into a book, book 1 could end when the queen is saved and hector finds out about the under earth and people living there. I will buy it.

You and Drew Hayes are my favorite online novelists you should follow his example. Believe me when i say your book would be better than 90% of the current fantasy kindle books out there. I should know i spend and excessive amount of money on them every month and a lot of the time I end up with crap.

    1. Haha, I'm planning on doing that. Making good cover art is probably the trickiest thing for me.

I'm thinking I'd put out two books initially, making the first one free so as to encourage new readers while pricing the second at $2.99. That way, if folks want to keep reading for free, they can just come here to the website.

Each book would end after three arcs, so the first one would conclude when Hector leaves Brighton for good, and the second book would end when the Queen brings up the topic of castles.

    2. I bet someone on Fiverr could help you out if you had a pretty clear idea of what you wanted

  9. Thats a good idea to get people hooked. it might also be worth asking people to review the books as soon as they've read them since some people don't. It makes finding good books hard since most people go for the books with 4 star reviews and at least a few reviews when searching.

  10. I red manga and light novels primarily fantasy and when ever I'm on a forum where people are mentioning reads. I always drop a link to your site. The people love your work once they read it, it's just getting it out there since it doesn't really seem to have hit it big yet. Just a matter of time.

    1. Oh, I never saw this comment. Thank you, by the way! I believe it was those very forum links of yours that were chiefly responsible for the recent explosion of new visitors and readers.

  11. The link to this site is a part of a lot of recommendation threads in forums I go to, if there's a place TZK's not mentioned though I'll definitely be spreading the word :).

Also is there a reason there's no facebook page? I'd like to like it, share the link, and show my support.

    1. Thank you very much. Recommendations on forums that welcome that sort of thing seem to be extremely helpful for acquiring new readers.

I've never really used Facebook. I suppose I could make a page, but I've never been real big on social media, so I don't think I'd have it in me to keep it updated. I do have a Google+ profile, though, just because it's kind of bundled with blogspot. All the new pages get shared through Google+ automatically.

  12. Glad I read this, didn't even realize I had adblock on, and it'd be a shame not to be supporting the author of such a great story.

  13. Do you know, i found this link on a chatbox on webtoonsreader.com and got hooked up right away. I'm always a fan of mangas & anime, and just recently this last couple months got into the light novel worlds. But mostly i read japanese and korean LN. My most favourite is LMS. And then i found wuxiaworld by ren, there i discovered wuxia/xianxia (chinese fantasy/martial arts) novel and got hooked up. I realize the world is really big, there are tons of amazing story out there.. until finally i find you. One word.. "Wow!"
It's really long journey untill i found this website, but it's really worthed it! Keep the good work! I really appreciate your dedication! Great novel! Love you really!!

  14. Well hello! I dont have friends... Anyway uh.... I.... like the story..... would donate but I am broke also.... Sorry I am so useless...huh... Oh yeah..... you are like one of my favorite authors and was wondering if you have any or plan on making any other series. (Hope you get my joke about the pauses)

  15. Hey, just dropping by to say that I love this story. It's really awesome how you mix and mingle humour, adventure, and real life drama (like wars, suicide, and what I suspect is a mental illness of some sort (social anxiety and depression?)). Suggested this story to a friend. We are supposed to be finishing an assignment but she's reading chapter one right now and she really seems to enjoy it :).
So, thanks for posting this online. I'm really glad I found it.

  16. Haven't donated, but I've bought all the books on Kindle, and even after reading what will go into volume 4 here, I'm still gonna buy it. Wish it was available in hard copy so i could proudly display on my bookshelf

  17. I will try and spread word about TZK and I actually kind of want to draw fan art now.. I'll have to do it someday when I have spare time. When there's a couple more books out on kindle, I will buy them, because I sincerely wish to support your work. Keep doing what you're doing, because it's amazing. :)

  18. God this is amazing. I love Hector and Garovel and all your freaking characters!! I love the world building and the concept of reapers and servants which I just think is super cool. And once again I just love reading how the characters interact. I appreciate your awesome sense of humour. I was reading Zombie Knight by the bus station and got some strange glances from people because I couldn't stop sniggering and then full on laughing at some of the dialogue. Zombie Knight is really enjoyable and I hope you keep writing forever! Seriously please never stop
