Page 239 -- XXVII.

Garovel gave a nod. ‘I suppose that’s all that matters at the moment.

Hector didn’t get on the highway yet. It had been blocked on the way into the city, and he doubted it had been cleared already. Instead, he followed the street beyond the city limits and waited until he saw the open country before getting on the larger road.

The kids took a while to adjust to the ride, crying for a good half hour before settling down.

Do you, um... do you think this was Geoffrey’s doing?

Garovel was slow to answer. ‘That might explain why we haven’t seen him in Brighton. But you’d think Colt would have mentioned Geoffrey in his text.

I don’t think he had much time, seeing as he never replied. And... if it was Geoffrey, then Colt might’ve been worried that I’d go after him instead of getting the kids to safety...

Hmm.

With a clear, open road ahead of him and a setting sun over the horizon, Hector eyed the children another time. They both stared back at him, chubby-cheeked and curious.

Hector frowned inside his riding helmet. ‘Garovel... what the hell are we gonna do...?

“Hello.”

“...Agh? Hmm? What’s happening?”

“Easy there. You’ve had a rough day.”

“Where am I? Who are you?”

“You’re dead. My name is Bohwanox. And there’s something I’d like to ask you.”

Colt opened his eyes. Dark waters greeted him. As did a shark, its teeth already digging into his chest.

Oh yeah,’ said Bohwanox, touching Colt’s shoulder. ‘The current carried you into shark-infested waters, by the way.

Colt would have yelled at the reaper if he could. Burning aches shot through his body, regrowing muscle, restoring flesh faster than the shark could tear it away. He punched the fish in the nose. It released him but didn’t flee, and after a moment, it lunged for him again. He kicked the beast with all the strength he could muster, and it torpedoed into the murky blackness.

    2. He only did it to torture us with the dead of colt and a new beloved character that we will come to love and want to see more of, i can feel the evil in this.

  2. The only question now is going to be what element will he use. If it is going to be lithium, the unstable jokes are already writing themselves.

    1. Could also be an ability that doesn't rely on an element.

  3. He should be sodium. can you imagine?
Also I forget, is Bohwanox neutral, vanguard, or was he too lazy to get involved?

  4. Ok... They say hindsight is 20/20... but this was quite obvious from a meta perspective. You heavilly hinted that Colt would be back, and there was some implication of him being a recurrent character in that... so having him dead was... out of the question without resurrection =P

I was going to point out to people that not all abilities rely on an ELEMENT, as we've given proof of, at least, 2 of them not depending on them. Heck, for all we know, he could develop an ability related to gravity, or light. (pew pew lasers FTW).

There's some... underlying idea that all the abilities are dependant on the personality. I think that much is clear if we examine them. Destructive people creating bombs, or acid, Hector's stability seeking mind creating metal, and a free-thriving mind creating basically movement.

With that in mind, I'd point out towards an inertial dampener. I mean, we know that these abilities can affect physical processes, and just dissipating kinetic energy would do that, plus it'd fit his personality type.

We could, however, follow the "meaningful name" theory. Then we'd have Hector [εκτωρ (hektor), holding fast] able to greate iron to HOLD things in places. In that case, Colt means "from dark town", and this supports that idea. That case, he'd get light manipulation, probably, which can include light bullets, thus making reference to the colt gun, too.

But those are just theories. We'll see how they pan out.

Just remember. Frost loves doing research for this novel... and having that research NOT to be obvious.

And, for a mind blower now... Garovel is a real life surname... and, while bohwanox doesn't seem to exist in real life, there's a bowanox park in oregon.

    1. You're enjoying my attempt to read what's going to happen with Colt's abilities more than anyone else here, aren't you? And as such, you're not going to confirm/deny any of my points.

Well, I'm pretty sure I'm onto something here... and Colt will confirm or deny it, anyway xD

  5. I knew he would eventually grab a servant, I had just hoped it would have been sword girl. Some Fate Stay Night saber action going on, but Colt is cool too.

  7. I know this story's getting good when it includes the line, "he punched the shark in the nose".

  8. Of course it's well played!
Mr. Frost has no care for our feeble ideas of his reality!
HE COULD EVEN HAVE A HAMSTER
